The Molecular
Biology and Biochemistry Research Center
for Nanomedicine (CIBBIM-Nanomedicine)
is a fully-equiped highly qualified
Research Center located within the University
Hospital of Vall d’Hebron in Barcelona,
one of the largest hospital complexes
of Spain. With a working force of more
than 60 fulltime researchers involved
in several Research Groups and Research
Areas the CIBBIM-Nanomedicine is intended
to facilitate translational research
and innovation within the Health and
Biomedical fields.
The CIBBIM was created
in 1995 as a joint effort of several
scientist from different fields of research,
surgeons and clinicians, that agreed
to put together all their resources
into the common area of interest of
human disease, in particular cancer
and rare diseases, in which the complementation
of their respective expertises ensure
the achievement of higher goals and
top quality standards, using new alternative
global approaches. Since its creation
the CIBBIM has achieved numerous high
impact publications in prestigious journals,
participated in several national and
international networks and research
projects, some of them participated
by biotech and pharma companies or by
industrial consortiums, and also succeed
with its patent licensing program.
In 2005 the CIBBIM opened a new and
very successful Nanomedicine Research
Program which allowed the center to
get involved in several national and
international nanomedicine research
networks and industrial partnerships.
As a consequence, in 2007 the CIBBIM
re-oriented its main research purpose
and goals towards the fast-emerging
field of nanomedicine and nanotechnology
in biomedicine and became the new CIBBIM-Nanomedicine.
